Psychometric properties of an Italian translation of the Functionality Appreciation Scale (FAS)

The Functionality Appreciation Scale (FAS; Alleva et al., 2017) is a widely used instrument for the measurement of individual’s appreciation their body what it can do and capable doing (i.e., functionality appreciation). Here, we examined psychometric properties novel Italian translation FAS. A sample 950 adults completed FAS, as well previously validated measures image (body appreciation, esteem, surveillance), disordered eating symptoms, psychological well-being (self-esteem, general distress). Exploratory confirmatory factor analyses supported 1-dimensional model FAS scores, with all 7 items retained. Scores achieved scalar invariance across gender, gender difference in latent scores was not significant. were found to have adequate internal consistency, test-retest reliability up three weeks, convergent criterion-related validity through significant correlations additional constructs. However, evidence incremental weak, likely reflected high nomological conceptual similarity between this national context. Overall, these results provide strong that on are psychometrically valid, which may aid future development interventions promote more positive Italian-speaking samples.
